Committee forwards citywide CDBG action-plan goals that include ending chronic homelessness

The committee heard a presentation from Oliver Hack of the Mayor—s Office of Housing on the City and County of San Francisco—s proposed six overarching Community Development Block Grant goals for FY2010-11. The goals are: promote economic self-sufficiency for low- and moderate-income families; strengthen neighborhood vitality; increase timely and effective social services; implement culturally and linguistically relevant funding strategies; promote equity-based public policy strategies; and end widespread chronic homelessness in San Francisco.
Hack said the entitlement is expected to remain approximately $21 million for FY2010-11 and described the competitive RFP timeline that will lead to recommendations from the Citizens Committee for Community Development in February and a public hearing in March. Hack said these goals are the same as in previous years and will feed the city—s five-year consolidated plan now under development. Supervisor John Avalos and other supervisors emphasized coordinating the committee—s prior recommendations with the consolidated-plan process.
Following limited public comment urging focus on seniors and people with disabilities, Supervisor Ross MacCarrime moved Item 1 to the full board and the motion was taken without objection.
