Rules Committee extends Food Security Task Force and expands membership

The Rules Committee on June 20 considered an ordinance to change the composition of San Francisco’s Food Security Task Force and extend its sunset date to July 1, 2021.
Sponsor Supervisor Roger Yee said the task force—established in 2005 to recommend citywide policy on food security—had been set to expire and that the ordinance extends the body and increases membership to improve citywide and district-level planning. Paula Jones of the Department of Public Health, vice-chair and staff to the task force, reported progress since 2014, cited increased funding for senior and disability food programs, and said the task force is completing a new food-security report with district-level data for supervisors.
With no public comment on the item, the committee voted to send the ordinance to the full Board with a positive recommendation and encouraged outreach to community-based organizations to fill task-force seats.
What’s next: The ordinance will appear on the Board agenda for final action.
