Rules Committee backs reappointment of Kimberly Brandon to Port Commission

The Rules Committee moved unanimously to forward Mayor Edwin Lee’s nomination to reappoint Kimberly Brandon to the Port Commission, after Brandon and a large slate of community endorsers described her record on waterfront projects, inclusion initiatives and local hiring.

Brandon, who has served on the Port Commission since the late 1990s, told the committee the port faces urgent resiliency needs — including seismic upgrades and sea‑level protections that will require local, state and federal partnerships. She highlighted work on the northern and southern waterfronts and cited projects intended to generate revenue for port infrastructure, including the Giants project at Seawall Lot 337 and development at Pier 70.

Speakers from a wide range of organizations — including nonprofit leaders, university officials, neighborhood advocates and business groups — described Brandon as an effective steward who advances economic inclusion and community benefits. Roscoe Mapps, government relations director at the San Francisco Giants, said Brandon’s experience helps ensure the port creates opportunities for San Franciscans; others noted her work supporting minority hiring and contracting. Several speakers described her long record of community fundraising and nonprofit leadership.

During questions, Supervisor Feuer asked Brandon how the port could improve contracting outcomes for underserved communities. Brandon described a recent vendor open house with roughly 200 vendors, outreach with the Department of Contract Management and targeted marketing to minority chambers. After brief supervisor remarks, the committee approved forwarding the reappointment with a positive recommendation to the full Board.

The reappointment will appear on the Board’s regular agenda for confirmation.
