San Francisco budget and mayoral staff told the Board of Supervisors’ Budget & Finance Committee on April 22 that the city is receiving multiple federal stimulus awards but that several large pots of money will not flow directly through the city’s budget or are still pending federal and state guidance.
Carrie McClellan of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development said the city has identified several awards and competitive applications under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, including a $121,000,000 General Services Administration (GSA) allocation to renovate the regional GSA office at 50 United Nations Plaza in San Francisco. "We were able to secure funding... $121,000,000," McClellan said, noting that because the GSA is a federal landlord the city cannot require the developer to comply with local hiring rules but will seek CityBuild participation where possible.
McClellan listed other formula and local allocations: about $2,500,000 in Department of Energy weatherization formula funds to the local Economic Opportunity Council, and roughly…
