Subcommittee certifies 2009 fund-drive applicants and adds late Bay Area United Way submission

The committee held a hearing on applications for the 2009 annual joint fundraising drive for officers and employees of the City and County of San Francisco pursuant to Administrative Code section 16.93. Jill Lerner of the City Administrator's Office confirmed she had reviewed the applications and that the City Administrator certified the federations were in compliance with the code.
Lerner and Deputy City Attorney Cheryl Adams told the committee that the code requires federations rather than individual charities to participate to ensure accountability. She listed the six federations typically involved, including the Bay Area United Way (BABUF), EarthShare of California, Community Health Charities, United Way, local independent charities, and Global Impact.
Linda Dales explained that one regular applicant's original packet was returned to sender and that she re-sent the application addressed per staff instruction. The clerk and counsel said the Board can add late applicants; the chair moved and, without objection, the committee agreed to include the late Bay Area United Way application and directed the clerk to prepare the necessary legislation to present to the full Board.
