Rules Committee sends Caltrain seat nominee Jillian Gillette to full board

Jillian Gillette, who said she has spent the past five years representing the City and County of San Francisco on Caltrain matters, was placed forward by the Rules Committee as the city’s nominee to the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board.
Gillette told the committee she coordinates San Francisco’s position on Caltrain and works with city agencies and the Transportation Authority. During public comment, David Pilpel said the board has historically filled that seat with a member of the Board of Supervisors and urged the committee to consider whether the city should continue that practice before appointing a non-supervisor.
Chair Supervisor Asha Safaie noted that no members of the board had expressed interest in the seat and that President Breed moved to forward Gillette’s nomination with a positive recommendation to the full Board. Supervisor Sandra Fewer, who was unable to speak because of laryngitis, provided voting cards to indicate support. The committee ordered the appointment be moved to the May 9 Board agenda.
The appointment will next be considered by the full Board of Supervisors.
