Rules Committee forwards 14 Park and Recreation advisory nominees to full Board

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on its April meeting recommended 14 nominees for the Park, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee to the full Board after hearing brief presentations from applicants and two public endorsements.
The applicants, nominated by various supervisors, described a mix of community experience including neighborhood greening, acquisitions work, equity planning and longtime membership on parks friends groups. Lucia Polman, speaking for nominee Alisa (Eliza) Lardmett, said Lardmett is a “staunch advocate for greening” and highlighted her work on accessibility for disabled park users. Robert Brust described community fundraising pledged toward a major acquisition, saying, “They have pledged $25,000,000 for constructing the park… and $150,000 every year thereafter.”
Why it matters: The advisory committee helps shape Rec and Park priorities including acquisitions, strategic-plan input and equity metrics; several nominees emphasized experience implementing Prop B’s funding and equity provisions.
Committee members thanked volunteers for serving and stressed the committee’s role as “eyes and ears” for Rec and Park staff on acquisitions and equity priorities. After brief discussion, Supervisor Yee moved to recommend all 14 applicants to their respective seats; a second was recorded and, “seeing no objections,” the committee forwarded the nominations to the full Board.
Public comment during the item included endorsements for Wendy Aragon from Larissa Casillas of Urban Habitat and Jesse Fernandez of People Organizing to Demand Economic and Environmental Rights, both of whom cited Aragon’s equity and leadership experience. The clerk noted items acted on at the Rules Committee would appear on the Board agenda on 04/18/2017.
Next steps: The committee’s recommendations will be considered by the full Board on the agenda date listed by the clerk. If the Board confirms, the nominees will take their seats on the Park, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee.
