Public comment featured several environmental and community speakers supporting Peskin. ‘‘We’re gladly and enthusiastically supporting his nomination,’’ said Marcela Gutierrez Groudins, founder and director of Azul, an ocean conservation and environmental justice organization, praising his record on open space and waterfront access. Catherine Howard of the Sierra Club noted that San Francisco is proposing coastal plan amendments addressing sea‑level rise and coastal erosion that will be reviewed by the Coastal Commission.
Why it matters: the California Coastal Commission reviews and regulates land and water use in the coastal zone. Committee members emphasized the importance of strong representation at the commission as San Francisco moves forward on local coastal program amendments affecting Ocean Beach and western shoreline areas.
The committee advanced the recommendation for Peskin by consensus and will forward the nomination to the full board.
