Naomi Kelly, the city administrator, asked the Rules Committee on Feb. 8 to confirm her reappointment for a five-year term under charter section 3.104. The committee voted to send the nomination to the full Board of Supervisors with a positive recommendation.
Kelly outlined achievements and priorities from the last five years, including capital planning, repairs to public housing, new hires for key department posts, and initiatives on technology and customer service. "We have a great team of folks," Kelly said, summarizing her office’s work across capital planning, public housing rehabilitation and city services.
Supervisors asked Kelly to expand on technology initiatives, shared services and recruiting a stable Department of Technology director; Kelly said the city has begun a shared‑services initiative and is creating a digital services team to streamline permitting and other services. She also told the committee she would provide benchmarks on companies’ internship and community-benefit commitments in the Mid‑Market area.
Several labor leaders and nonprofit executives testified in support during public comment. Rudy Corpus, who said he has done violence-prevention work in the city for 23 years, called Kelly "an amazing, spectacular person" who shows up for the community. Community Housing Partnership CEO Gail Gilman highlighted work on Treasure Island redevelopment and affordable units.
After public testimony and brief discussion, a supervisor moved and the committee unanimously forwarded Kelly’s reappointment to the full board with a positive recommendation.
What happens next: The full Board of Supervisors will consider Kelly’s reappointment on its February agenda.
