Rules Committee forwards nominees for Balboa Park Station advisory committee to full board

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on Monday forwarded a slate of nine nominees to the full Board for appointment to the Balboa Park Station Citizens Advisory Committee, leaving the City College seat vacant.

Supervisor John Avalos presented the committee’s recommendation for seats 1–9, naming Tiffany Yang for the low-income seat, Rafaela Falchi for the youth seat (absent), Reverend Glenda Hope for the senior seat, Robert Muehlbauer for transit, Faye Denise Lakanil Lau for the Ped/Bike seat, Aaron Goodman for the residency seat, Luis Lisia for the small-business seat, Jesse Fernandez for the nonprofit seat, and noting no applicant with a City College background had applied.

Reverend Glenda Hope, who identified herself as founder of Cayuga Community Connectors and a longtime neighborhood resident, detailed decades of work on pedestrian safety and affordable housing and urged supervisors to oppose new jail construction. "We do not need this. Please follow the recommendations of this eleven-month citizens committee," she said.

Applicants who addressed the committee highlighted transit connectivity, neighborhood outreach and affordable housing priorities around the Balboa Park Station area. Aaron Goodman, an incumbent CAC member, said the advisory body must focus on transit safety and corridor linkages; Jesse Fernandez emphasized outreach to low-income and limited-English residents and experience with the equity advisory committee.

Supervisor Eric Mar moved to adopt Avalos’ recommendations and the committee agreed to forward the slate to the full Board for action on Dec. 13. Chair Katie Tang closed public comment and said the recommendations would appear as the committee report to the full Board.

The committee did not formally fill the City College seat because no applicant with that background had been identified.
