The Rules Committee forwarded a unanimous recommendation to the Board of Supervisors to appoint Jesse Sandoval to the In‑Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority, seat number 11, term ending 2018‑03‑01.
Sandoval, an attorney and longtime IHSS consumer, told the committee he is qualified by "educational, professional, and personal experience." He said he represents people with disabilities in legal matters, works at a delivery resource center providing legal services to low‑income disabled clients, and has been an IHSS consumer for 16 years.
"I believe I most qualified for seat 11 due to my educational, professional, and personal experience," Sandoval said, summarizing his legal training and advocacy work. He identified provider retention and training as a key priority for the Public Authority and described efforts to support younger adults transitioning from parental care into independent IHSS arrangements.
Supervisor Eric Marr and others noted letters of support from organizations including the Independent Living Resource Center and encouraged Sandoval’s focus on younger adults with disabilities who may have different needs from seniors.
Patrick Hochdall, executive assistant and Board liaison for the IHSS Public Authority, spoke in support of Sandoval and said the governing body welcomes his candidacy. Supervisor Marr moved the committee recommendation and the item was forwarded to the full Board without objection.
