Budget committee accepts most Sheriff budget cuts but puts overtime reduction on reserve and defers Community Justice Center decision
Summary
The Budget and Finance Committee accepted most budget analyst recommendations for the Sheriff's Department on June 18, 2008, but, after debate, set the proposed $750,000 overtime cut on reserve and delayed a policy decision on the Community Justice Center to allow more review.

Chair Supervisor McGoldrick convened the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee June 18 to review the mayor's proposed budget and the analyst's recommendations for the Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Mike Hennessy told the committee the analyst's report would reduce his department's general fund by about $1.4 million and could force layoffs among non'peace officers if one policy option proceeds: roughly 46'50 institutional police, dispatchers and other positions could be eliminated if shifts tied to Prop J implementation change (Sheriff Mike Hennessy, SEG 219'231).
