Rules Committee appoints three members to Park, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on Thursday appointed three people to the Park, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee, commonly known as ProSAC, following brief public endorsements from neighborhood and parks advocates.
Chair John Avalos called Item 1 and the clerk, Derek Evans, reported three seats were open with three applicants. Robert Brust introduced himself and described two years of service on ProSAC and his work on the department’s five-year strategic plan and emphasis on land acquisition and preventative maintenance. Richard Rothman asked to be reappointed to the District 1 seat and outlined his role as a liaison between Rec and Park staff and Richmond District residents. Patricia Delgado submitted written materials and did not appear in person.
Speakers from the parks community urged the committee to approve the nominees. Linda De Vero, chair of ProSAC, told the committee the nominees were “strong, willing workers” who attend meetings and serve on subcommittees. Phil Ginsburg of the Recreation and Park Department praised the applicants as committed park advocates.
Supervisor Avalos asked for a motion. The committee moved, seconded and approved the appointments “without objection,” and the clerk said the appointments would appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on Jan. 12, 2016. The committee’s action forwards the nominees to the full board for final confirmation.
The committee did not debate substantive policy changes as part of the appointments. The committee adjourned the item and moved on to other business.
