Rules Committee waives residency, backs two nominees for Sunshine Ordinance Task Force

The Rules Committee voted on Sept. 10 to forward positive recommendations for Mark Rumold and Eric Eldon to serve on the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force, and it waived residency requirements for the nominees.
Mark Rumold, a former task force member and an attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said he helped improve the task force’s efficiency during prior service and has expertise in transparency laws. Eric Eldon, editor in chief of neighborhood news outlet Hoodline, discussed the civic value of local reporting and the need for improved data and online access to public records.
Richard Nee of the Society of Professional Journalists testified in support of the nominations and explained the SPJ’s vetting process. Supervisors discussed the residency-waiver requests and noted both nominees work near City Hall and can attend meetings; the committee moved to waive residency requirements and forwarded positive recommendations to the full Board.
