Committee releases $1.5M for HOPE SF predevelopment work on Sunnydale and Potrero sites

The committee approved a motion to release $1.5 million from the HOPE SF reserve to support predevelopment activities for several public-housing redevelopment sites, including Sunnydale, Potrero Terrace and Westside Court.
Doug Shoemaker of the Mayor—s Office of Housing said the request follows a broad developer response to an RFQ and selection of three development teams; the funds will pay predevelopment work, resident engagement and early planning to shape future mixed-use, mixed-income redevelopment while preserving one-for-one replacement of units.
Interim Housing Authority director Miriam Saez described work already done with $2 million previously released for repairs and modernization (projects such as unit rehabs, sewer repairs and safety improvements). Saez said HUD funding shortfalls left the housing authority borrowing modernization dollars to cover operations, increasing the need for local predevelopment funds.
Supervisor Ellsburn moved the release; supervisors voted by roll call. The motion passed 4–1 (Supervisor Daley voted no). Supervisors emphasized ongoing resident engagement and oversight and asked for continued reporting as predevelopment teams begin community planning and NOFA-driven design work.
