Committee forwards Supervisor Jane Kim’s appointment to Reentry Council

Supervisor Jane Kim’s appointment to the city’s Reentry Council was advanced by the Rules Committee on Sept. 10 following a staff presentation on the council’s priorities.
Karen Shane, reentry policy planner for the Department of Adult Probation, told the committee the council’s work centers on a three-pronged justice-reinvestment strategy: reduce time on probation, expand pretrial release and diversion programs, and eliminate racial disproportionality in San Francisco’s criminal justice system. “We have a plan and that is probably going to be the central focus of the work of the reentry council for the foreseeable future,” Shane said.
Supervisors discussed neighborhood concerns about property crime and emphasized connecting reentry work to community safety and local offices. The committee moved to send a positive recommendation to the full Board for Kim’s appointment.
