Rules Committee backs Leah Pimentel for OCII successor agency seat

The Rules Committee on Sept. 10 recommended that the full Board confirm Leah Pimentel to a seat on the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII) successor agency.
Pimentel, a third-generation Bayview resident, told the committee she has worked in workforce development and affordable-housing outreach, including with GRID Alternatives, and emphasized housing features that help families stay in the city. “If we're building those units with multiple rooms, it's attracting the families,” Pimentel said, and she added that childcare centers and increased minority-contractor participation should be priorities.
A string of community leaders and organizations — including representatives from Young Community Developers, the A. Philip Randolph Institute, labor union Local 261 and others — spoke in support of Pimentel’s appointment, citing her community ties and experience with workforce and housing initiatives.
Committee members raised questions about how the successor agency can support existing homeowners and outreach in Southeast neighborhoods; Pimentel recommended focused outreach, education, and possible microloan programs to help owners rehabilitate properties and preserve homeownership.
The committee forwarded a positive recommendation to the full Board; the appointment will appear on the Sept. 22 Board agenda.
