Rules Committee backs ordinance to establish January restaurant week, send change to full Board

The Rules Committee voted June 25 to forward an ordinance to the full Board that would establish the final 10 days of January each year as San Francisco's annual Restaurant Week and simultaneously remove the Department of Public Health's restaurant appreciation month from the Health Code.
During brief discussion Committee Chair John Avalos said the proposal appeared self-explanatory. Supervisor Katie Tang said she supported the change "to align it with, it looks like the state" and moved to forward the ordinance with a positive recommendation. The motion was seconded by Supervisor Malia Cohen and taken without objection.
There was no substantive public opposition on the item during the committee meeting; the ordinance will appear on the Board agenda on July 7 for further consideration and any formal vote or reading required by Board rules.
