Calvillo asked the committee for policy direction on several items, including staffing the PUC revenue bond oversight committee (language included in Prop P) and an Americans with Disabilities Act upgrade to the president's podium that may require four months of temporary meeting relocation. She said the PUC is willing to fund the bond-oversight position and that some costs could be shared under the countywide overhead cost allocation plan.
Supervisors and staff discussed how to meet the mayor's budget instructions (an 8% reduction plus an additional ongoing 5%), and Calvillo said the office would continue to search for further savings and report back. There was general agreement to pursue statutory obligations such as the Prop P staffing responsibility and to collaborate on reaching the mayor's target.
Public comment was closed and the committee adjourned. Calvillo said the second hearing on the Clerk's budget will be Feb. 13, and staff will continue to work with the Budget Analyst and the mayor's office on identified gaps.
