Rules Committee appoints Elise Magie to Bicycle Advisory Committee seat

Elise Magie was appointed to the District 9 seat on the San Francisco Bicycle Advisory Committee after a Rules Committee hearing on April 9, 2015.
Magie, who said she works with Walk SF and is a member of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, described herself as an artist and organizer focused on pedestrian advocacy and alternative transportation. "I first heard about the seat opening on the BAC through [the Bicycle Coalition] newsletter," Magie told the committee, and said she applied after learning the committee was all male and she wanted to increase representation of women and other riders who face specific challenges.
Vice Chair Katie Tang asked Magie about specific goals if appointed; Magie said she would push for Vision Zero priorities, encourage new riders, pay attention to future projects and problem spots, and generally advocate for multimodal transportation. Public comment in support came from Peter Strass of the San Francisco Transit Riders, who called Magie "an outstanding candidate" and urged the committee to appoint her.
Chair John Avalos moved to appoint Magie to seat 9, the motion was accepted without objection, and the appointment will proceed to the full Board as required by committee procedures.
The appointment concludes the committee’s consideration of Item 1; the committee then proceeded to other business.
