Committee recommends approval of three federal transit grants totaling about $80.2 million for Muni projects

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ Budget & Finance Committee on Wednesday recommended that the full Board approve three resolutions authorizing the Municipal Transportation Agency (MTA) to accept and expend Federal Transit Administration funds for Muni capital projects.
Judson True, representing the MTA, summarized the three items and said they represent a mix of formula and competitive federal funding to support ongoing projects and keep the system in a state of good repair. Item 3 authorizes acceptance and expenditure of $1,805,760 in FTA Section 5309 funds for design and construction of the Islas Creek Muni facility and the purchase of automatic vehicle locator equipment. Item 4 would accept $31,854,482 in FTA Section 5307 capital assistance for various municipal railway capital projects. Item 5 would accept $46,547,421 in Section 5309 funding for additional guideway capital projects and activities.
True told the committee the projects are ongoing and critical to Muni operations; Mr. Rose recommended approval of all three items. There was no public comment. The committee will forward the resolutions to the full Board with a recommendation for approval.
