Committee approves release of $1,019,656 in reserve funds for emergency operations center renovations and disaster planning

Vicky Hennessy of the Department of Emergency Management asked the Budget & Finance Committee to release $1,019,656 in reserve funds from FY05 homeland-security grant monies to pay for an emergency operations center renovation ($891,500), community disaster-planning work tied to the hub concept ($69,425), and tabletop exercises and workshops ($58,731). Hennessy said the Bureau of Architecture will bill the department so the city can request reimbursement from the state.
Paul Travis of the Department of Public Works Bureau of Architecture told the committee the project will use the job-order contracting system with a master contract and a certified contractor; negotiations on scope and pricing are underway and construction can begin once terms are finalized. Travis said remaining closeout balances from a prior 911 center phase will help fund the project.
Chair Peskin called for public comment, received none, and released the funds without objection.
