Brown said the initial rent is $29.52 per square foot, tenant improvements would make the space suitable for OLSE, and workstations would be purchased and installed at city expense.
Supervisors raised concerns about City Hall stacking, which departments would backfill OLSE's space, and whether the City Hall Commission was consulted on the move. OLSE representatives said the office has grown from 16 to 21 staff, currently occupies multiple City Hall locations, and requested consolidated space for records, meeting space and daily operations. Budget Analyst Mr. Rose noted the lease would cost approximately $1,000,000 over the first five years and recommended approval.
Chair Peskin proposed, and colleagues agreed, to forward the lease to the full Board without recommendation and to hold offline discussions among supervisors and staff about City Hall occupancy and future stacking plans.
