Rules Committee forwards five Bicycle Advisory Committee nominees to full Board

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on Nov. 4 advanced five nominees to the full Board for appointment to the Bicycle Advisory Committee and continued one vacancy.
Supervisor Norman Yee called the hearing on the committee’s six seats and noted there were six applicants. Kevin Dole, a reappointment candidate, told the committee he has served as the committee’s secretary and handled minutes and communications, and that he had coordinated with SFPD on bicycle theft and cyclist fatalities. “Since being appointed, I've, been elected secretary by my fellow committee members,” Dole said, describing his outreach and recruitment efforts.
Initial appointee Winston Parsons described years of youth development and bike-safety work with the YMCA and a minor in urban planning from San Francisco State. Edward Nicholson, a District 4 resident and candidate for reappointment, explained past absences were due to overseas business travel as a senior director at Yaskawa and said his travel has since been curtailed. Supervisor Katie Tang praised Nicholson’s community participation.
Morgan Fitzgibbons described work on local projects around the city’s “wiggle,” efforts to support Vision Zero and daylight intersections, and service on the Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee. Richard May, who has served about four years on the committee, noted bicycling is his primary mode of transportation and highlighted his volunteer work with housing-advocacy groups; he added he is currently the only person of color on the committee.
After public comment closed, Supervisor David Campos moved to forward the nominations — Kevin Dole (seat 1), Winston Parsons (seat 2), Edward Nicholson (seat 4), Morgan Fitzgibbons (seat 5) and Richard May (seat 6) — and to continue the nomination for seat 7. Supervisor Katie Tang concurred, and with no objections the committee forwarded the five nominations to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
The committee’s action means the full Board will consider the appointments at its Nov. 18 meeting; the nomination for seat 7 (applicant Bert Hill was absent) was continued.
