Rules Committee forwards charter amendment on retiree health benefits to full Board

Supervisor Norman Yee opened a July 14, 2014 meeting of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee and the committee voted to forward a charter amendment to the full Board that would provide retiree health-care benefits to employees of the former redevelopment agency and to registered domestic partners of retired employees, and would place the measure on the Nov. 4, 2014 ballot.

Andrea Bresch, from Supervisor Cohen's office, told the committee that office staff had worked through recent changes and asked the Rules Committee to send the measure to the full Board with a positive recommendation. "We would ask that you forward this with a positive recommendation to the full board for tomorrow's meeting," she said.

An unidentified supervisor moved to forward the item as a committee report, saying committee questions had been answered and that Supervisor Cohen had explained the changes at the prior meeting. The chair then confirmed the committee would not take a roll call vote. "With no objection, the motion passes," Supervisor Norman Yee announced, and the item will be placed on the July 22 Board agenda and slated for the Nov. 4, 2014 election if adopted.

Clerk Lisa Miller provided routine meeting instructions at the start of the session, and the committee acknowledged SFGTV staff Jim Smith and Manny Velasquez for recording and posting transcripts of meetings. The committee concluded its business and adjourned shortly after the vote.

The full Board of Supervisors is scheduled to receive the committee report at its July 22 meeting.
