The Rules Committee on June 23 considered the mayoral nomination of Rodney Fong to the San Francisco Planning Commission and recommended confirmation to the full Board of Supervisors.
Mr. Fong spoke briefly about his four years on the Planning Commission, stressing the need to consider neighborhood differences and to balance growth with preservation of the city's character. Supporters from the public and supervisors praised his leadership, small-business outreach and work on joint hearings with the Small Business Commission.
Supervisor Katie Tang moved to forward the nomination with recommendation; the committee amended a procedural motion to accept the nomination (rather than reject) and the recommendation passed unanimously in committee. The nomination will be placed on the July 8 Board of Supervisors agenda for final confirmation.
