Rules Committee appoints Dan Jordan and other tenant advocates to SRO Task Force after public endorsements

The Rules Committee on Feb. 6 heard a detailed hearing for seven seats on the Single‑Room Occupancy (SRO) Task Force and moved to appoint several tenant representatives after extensive public endorsements.
Dan Jordan, a long‑term SRO resident and housing peer counselor, said he has worked directly with tenants and city agencies to resolve habitability issues and cited campaigns such as installing grab bars in hotels. "I think I would be good for this position because I do have experience in working with the SRO tenants," he said.
Several community members and tenant organizers spoke in his favor. Kendra Frostman of the Mission SRO Collaborative said she had worked with Nikki Alexander for more than a year and recommended her for a tenant seat; Demetrius Spearman and Gail Seagraves likewise gave public endorsements for Dan Jordan, describing his tenant organizing and habitability work.
Deputy City Attorney John Givner advised the committee that the resolutions creating the task force require that certain seats (1 and 9) be held by current SRO tenants; Thomas Picariello, who said he is a former SRO tenant now in senior housing, was advised that he does not qualify for a tenant seat under the committee’s legal interpretation.
The committee moved and approved appointments for several seats while continuing others: Dan Jordan (seat 1), Nicolette (Nikki) Alexander (seat 9), Amelia Rudberg (seat 4), Joshua Vinen (seat 5) and Angela Chu (seat 7) were recommended by the committee; seats 2 and 8 were continued because applicants were absent or eligibility needed follow‑up.
The clerk said items acted on today will appear on the Board agenda on Feb. 25; the task‑force recommendations will be transmitted to the full Board for final action.
