Trustees and faculty urged continued support for City College during committee public comment

During the committee's public‑comment period, several speakers urged continued financial and legislative support for City College of San Francisco.

An unidentified public commenter opened the remarks by thanking the mayor and praising Senator Leno and other named sponsors and educational partners. Rafael Mandelmann, who identified himself as a City College board trustee, thanked city officials and supporters for recent efforts to stabilize the college, cited the voters' approval of Proposition A as an important step and called Senator Leno's bill "an extraordinarily important step" to help City College not just survive but thrive. Fred Teddie, president of the City College Academic Senate, said the legislation and city support are important for stability, morale and workforce training the college provides to the city and region.

Speakers emphasized the college's importance to low‑income students, the role of faculty and staff amid pay cuts and uncertainty, and urged continued collaboration among city, state and federal officials. The public‑comment block concluded before the committee entered closed session; later, in closed session, legal staff reported the committee had voted unanimously to forward items 7, 8 and 9 to the full Board and the committee voted to not disclose the closed‑session discussion.
