Rules Committee forwards advisory appointments and settlement items, votes to withhold closed‑session details

The Rules Committee on Jan. 16 forwarded several local advisory appointments and recommended settlement items to the full Board of Supervisors, and then voted not to disclose the substance of closed‑session deliberations.
The committee moved multiple appointment items for community advisory committees — including the Balboa Park Station Community Advisory Committee, the Eastern Neighborhoods Citizens Advisory Committee and the Central Market/Tenderloin Citizens Advisory Committee — forwarding nominees with positive recommendations. Supervisor Avalos and others spoke in support of nominees such as Gwen McKellen and Robert Marquez, and motions to forward the appointments passed without objection.
The committee also convened in closed session to consider ordinances authorizing settlements of lawsuits and a resolution approving settlement of an unlitigated claim (Items 8–11). After the closed session, Deputy City Attorney John Givner reported the committee had unanimously voted to forward items 8–11 to the full board with recommendation. The committee then voted to withhold disclosure of what occurred in closed session.
The forwarded appointments and settlement recommendations will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda for consideration.
