Rules Committee recommends Alex Walker and Nick Smith for Airport Facilities Naming Advisory Committee

Alex Walker, a political and nonprofit consultant who serves on the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club board, said naming a terminal after Harvey Milk would offer an educational opportunity for visitors and require outreach: “I think this is a real opportunity for us to look back our very, our varied and rich history here in San Francisco, and really educate ourselves.” He told the committee he would focus on community outreach and serving as a liaison between the committee and neighborhood groups.
Nick Smith, a veteran news producer and current ABC7 staffer, described his interest in honoring Harvey Milk and emphasized inclusion and the city’s values: “This recognition will serve as an iconic symbol of what he stood for in sacrifice and the importance of his legacy.”
Supervisor David Campos moved to forward Walker and Smith for seats 8 and 9 with positive recommendations; the motion passed. The chair announced Alex Walker would be assigned seat 8 and Nick Smith seat 9.
The committee’s vote forwards the nominations to the full Board of Supervisors, which will make the final appointments.
