Rules Committee forwards several advisory and commission appointments

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on July 11 moved a set of personnel matters to the full Board with positive recommendations.

Chair Supervisor Norman Yee opened the meeting and the committee considered several appointment items. Captain Connolly presented his law-enforcement resume and experience developing a joint powers agreement; after no public comment the committee voted to waive a residency requirement and forward his BayRicks Board appointment to the full Board. Vera Hale described decades of senior-services work and her experience with immigrant-serving meal sites; the committee moved her nomination for the Commission on Aging Advisory Council with a positive recommendation. Winnie Gao, director of the Workers’ Rights Project at the Asian Law Caucus, recounted litigation and outreach on wage-theft cases and the committee agreed to forward her candidacy for the Wage Theft Task Force.

The committee reappointed three long-serving members to the Ballot Simplification Committee—June (Jean) Fraps, Betty Packard and Adele Fasig—after each candidate described the committee’s role producing voter handbook text. In a contested Police Commission slot, retired paramedic Mr. Frank and former commissioner Petra De Jesus presented. Multiple supervisors and public commenters praised De Jesus’s prior commission work on PERF and racial-profiling studies; the committee moved her reappointment to the full Board with support.

All of the personnel motions at the hearing were advanced without recorded objections. The committee noted that items acted upon will appear on the Board of Supervisors’ July 23 agenda for final consideration.
