Rent Board highlights eviction-processing measures and pushes expanded translations online

Darlene (transcript: "Deline") Wolf, Executive Director of the Rent Board, told the Budget & Finance Committee that the board’s two most important measures are the timely processing of eviction reports and issuance of administrative decisions by hearing officers. Wolf said quick processing can, in some cases, stop an eviction before it progresses.

The Rent Board also reported heavy website traffic — approximately 335,000 hits per month — and outlined plans to expand translated materials and measure web customer satisfaction. The board currently has about 60 translated documents online and aims to add roughly 200 more documents this year while increasing the number of discrete translated documents overall by at least 10%.

Supervisors asked whether the Rent Board could present interdepartmental measures (for instance, tracking rent-controlled housing stock over time) and correlate eviction reports with court filings; Wolf said the board tracks filings that reach the office and will collaborate with other departments where possible.

The committee accepted the presentation and asked departments to work together on cross-cutting benchmarks; no formal votes were taken at the hearing.
