The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Budget & Finance Committee advanced a resolution that changes how uniform court filing fees are distributed to support the city law library.
Supervisor Pasco said the adjustment reflects a $3 allocation allowed under state law — bringing the filing-fee distribution to $42 effective Jan. 1 — and that the change was assumed in the fiscal year 2006–07 budget. Ms. Bell, who the committee identified as present to answer questions, told the committee this is an administrative distribution tied to the state Office of the Courts’ budget and "this doesn't in fact increase the fees." She added the distribution occurred in 2007 because the state budgeted funds that year and warned there is no legal provision for continuing an increase beyond those circumstances.
The item drew no public comment and President Aaron Peskin moved it to the full Board with the committee’s recommendation. The motion was accepted without objection.
