Officials seek authorization to increase Motorola contract to $20 million

The Budget & Finance Committee forwarded to the full Board a resolution authorizing the Department of Telecommunications and Information Services (DTIS) to enter a sixth amendment with Motorola to raise the anticipated contract authorization to $20,000,000 and extend the contract term.
Ron Vincent, CAO of DTIS, told the committee that the product is at midlife and the department issued an RFI that returned a single respondent: “we received 1 response, which I have here as well, and we had 1 sole respondent and that was also for Motorola,” he said. Vincent asked supervisors to approve an extension and increased authorization to address maintenance and equipment needs over the next 10 years.
Budget analyst Mr. Rose said the department has expended about $9.7 million of the currently authorized $9.9 million and projected a similar amount over the next decade; he reiterated that the arrangement began as a sole-source award and recommended approval of the resolution.
Committee members asked about the RFI and the noticing process; DTIS said it followed standard notification channels. With no public comment, the committee moved the resolution forward to the full Board with a recommendation.
