Rules committee recommends Abigail Evans for Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee seat

The Rules Committee recommended Abigail Evans to the Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee on Feb. 16 after hearing her presentation on pedestrian-injury data and prevention strategies. Evans, a research associate at San Francisco General Hospital’s Injury Center, said pedestrian injuries cost about $18 million annually in direct medical charges and that a majority of those injured are San Francisco residents.
Evans described plans to build a comprehensive pedestrian-injury database at the Department of Public Health to inform policy and to launch an empowerment center and bedside case-management outreach for people struck by vehicles. "Our aim is to construct a database robust enough to keep San Francisco policymakers informed of all aspects of pedestrian injury," Evans said.
Supervisors praised the injury-center work and moved Evans’ nomination forward with recommendation to the full board.
