Medical Cannabis Task Force nominations continued after public testimony

The Rules Committee opened Item 3 to applicant statements and public comment but continued the item to its next meeting on Thursday, November 17 at the request of the ordinance sponsor and following letters from stakeholders.
Chair Jane Kim said Supervisor Campos, the author of the legislation establishing the Medical Cannabis Task Force, had asked for a continuance and the committee would not decide the appointments that day. Several applicants spoke briefly in support of greater diversity and patient advocacy on the task force.
Marquise described work as a patient advocate and outreach to youth and homeless cannabis users, saying the task force needed more racial and youth representation and Spanish-language outreach. "I'm very passionate about helping cannabis patients and San Franciscans in general," Marquise told the committee.
Other applicants, including Kenneth Lima and Leonard Watkins, recounted personal caregiving and patient-advocacy experience and asked the committee to consider their hands-on service to patients and veterans. Reverend Maureen Burns and others in public comment urged the committee to add youth and caregiver perspectives to the task force.
After the testimony, the committee voted to continue Item 3 to the next Rules Committee meeting. Applicants who spoke were told they need not reappear but staff may follow up with questions.
