Rules committee forwards Deborah Dokumos for Veterans’ Affairs Commission

The Rules Committee voted to forward the mayor’s nomination of Deborah Dokumos to the Veterans’ Affairs Commission with a committee recommendation.
Dokumos, who described 31 years in the U.S. Army and subsequent reserve service, told the committee she intends to pursue veterans’ programming that uses arts to support healing and family engagement at veterans facilities. She recommended establishing "Healing of the Arts" programming in civic venues including the Veterans Building and War Memorial.
Veterans Affairs commissioners and former commission leaders spoke in support. Steven Nottell, identified as a commissioner and secretary to the Veterans Affairs Commission, said Dokumos meets the residency and experience qualifications and noted her connection with younger veterans. Wallace Levin, past commission president, emphasized the commission’s long history of seeking more women veterans and said Dokumos would add important representation and experience.
Supervisors thanked Dokumos for her military service and moved to forward the nomination as a committee report; the chair indicated the committee could do so without recorded opposition. The nomination will proceed to a Board hearing.
