Rules committee advances Audrey Joseph’s reappointment to Entertainment Commission

The San Francisco Rules Committee voted to forward the mayor’s nomination to reappoint Audrey Joseph to the Entertainment Commission, advancing the item to the full Board with a committee report.

Audrey Joseph, introduced by the clerk and present at the hearing, told the committee she is a founding member of the Entertainment Commission and outlined work on modifying police code 10 60, drafting security requirements known in the hearing as “Sherrod’s law” and programs to help neighborhood businesses comply without penalties. Joseph said she has worked on festivals, recorded music and nightclub logistics and has pursued closer coordination between the industry and San Francisco Police Department.

Richard Correa, identified in the meeting as the Metro Division commander for SFPD, spoke in support of Joseph. Correa said the chief asked him to appear to “both support Commissioner Joseph and to say that the relationship is good,” and highlighted a summertime entertainment summit, cross‑training sessions for private security and a reduction in nightclub‑related violence during the summer.

Several industry and community witnesses — including promoters, nonprofit representatives and Entertainment Commission members — offered endorsements at the public comment period, citing Joseph’s institutional knowledge and ability to balance safety and business interests. Chair Jane Kim thanked Joseph and staff for collaborative work that she said contributed to a “violence free” summer at nightclubs.

The committee recorded a motion to move item 1 forward as a committee report and to table the related rejection motion (item 2); the chair said the panel could advance the nomination without opposition. The nomination will next be considered by the full Board of Supervisors.
