Committee backs amendment clarifying 'summary' for city public notices; clerk cites up to $50,000 in annual savings

The Rules Committee advanced an ordinance clarifying the definition of “summary” in San Francisco Administrative Code section 2.97, sending the measure to the full Board with the committee’s recommendation.
Deputy City Clerk Rick Caldera told the committee the ordinance (following Ordinance No. 318-10, passed in December 2010) clarifies that the term "summary" should align with the original intent of using the city’s official website homepage as the published notice. Caldera said the clarification will not remove publication requirements imposed by federal or state law and that the change could realize cost savings for the Clerk of the Board’s Office of around $50,000 per year.
Committee members asked for clarification of projected savings and were told the estimated savings were "upwards of $50,000 a year." No public comments were offered on the item. Supervisor Ellsburn moved the ordinance forward with recommendation; the committee approved moving the ordinance to the Board without objection.
