Several applicants and public commenters stressed homelessness among veterans, the need for employment programs for returning service members and the importance of continuity: "We need new blood," said Ramirez, a 22‑year Air Force veteran who works at the San Francisco VA and runs outreach programs. Incumbents and advocates urged reappointment of current commissioners who have shown high attendance and active leadership in recent initiatives.
Committee members noted two seats are reserved by ordinance for women veterans (seats 5 and 12). Supervisors deferred filling those slots to the call of the chair to allow more time for recruitment and to ensure candidates meet the residency and eligibility criteria.
The committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the full Board of Supervisors for final confirmation.
