The Rules Committee reviewed seven applicants March 3 to fill five seats on the Urban Forestry Council and moved a slate of nominees to the full Board as committee recommendations.
Maria D'Agostino, chairing the council, described her experience as an urban forester for Redwood City and initiatives on meeting schedules, annual reports and tree-preservation policy. Dan Flanagan, executive director of Friends of the Urban Forest, reviewed the nonprofit’s tree-planting track record and urged continued partnership with city bureaus. Other applicants who presented included Andrew Sullivan, Rose Hilson, Terry Milne and Sandy Sherwin; supervisors discussed seat qualifications and whether membership in a nonprofit satisfied certain seat categories.
Chair Kim nominated Maria D’Agostino for seat 2 and, following motions from colleagues, the committee moved several candidates forward without objection (Rose Hilson for seat 6; Dan Flanagan for seat 4; Sandy Sherwin for seat 5; Andrew Sullivan for seat 7). The recommendations will be forwarded to the Board for confirmation.
