FX Crowley appeared before the Rules Committee after a mayoral nomination to the Port Commission. Crowley described his labor background as business representative for IATSE Local 16 and his service on the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, where he worked on a multibillion-dollar water system improvement program.
Supporters from organized labor, the Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Port director praised Crowley's public-service record and labor expertise. Gunnar Lundberg of the Sailors Union of the Pacific said labor strongly supports the appointment; Port Director Monique Moyer described Crowley as a committed public-process participant and noted the port's need for a labor seat on the commission.
The committee approved Crowley's nomination with a recommendation and forwarded it to the full Board for confirmation.
