The Rules Committee on Oct. 21 considered 16 applicants for one vacancy on the Entertainment Commission and selected Tim Benetti following applicant presentations, public endorsements and supervisors’ deliberations.
Candidates ranged from nightclub operators and event planners to community advocates and small‑business representatives. Supervisors debated the merits of industry experience versus independent perspectives; supporters for multiple candidates emphasized experience with neighborhood relations, event safety and small‑business development.
Tim Benetti, a Mission District homeowner, volunteer and industry advocate, emphasized accessibility and professionalization of permitting and nighttime economy policy in his presentation. Supervisor Alioto‑Pier and others praised Benetti’s knowledge of access issues and his work on disability‑related accessibility proposals for entertainment venues.
After discussion, Chair Campos said he would support Benetti, and the committee took the appointment without objection. Members and public endorsers cited the candidate pool’s strength and the committee thanked outgoing commissioner Terrence Allen for his service.
The committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the full Board for final confirmation as required by the appointment process.
