Rules Committee advances reappointments and nominations for Planning, Police and other boards

He answered questions from supervisors about less-lethal weapons and San Francisco’s sanctuary policy; Slaughter said the sanctuary policy should be protected and that Secure Communities (federal program) must be monitored. Supervisor Alioto-Pier moved to forward Slaughter’s nomination with approval; the committee advanced the nomination as a committee report.
Assessment Appeals and other commissions: The committee reviewed multiple assessment-appeals board applications. For Board No.1 (Item 5), candidates Mark Watts, Jeffrey Morris and Greg Blaine presented; the committee moved to reappoint Jeffrey Morris and Greg Blaine. For Board No.2 (Item 6), candidates included Joyce Lewis, Mervyn Conlan (absent), Alfredo Perez and Margaret Ruxton; the committee reappointed Perez and Ruxton and deferred action on Conlan’s seat until he can appear. The committee also approved an appointment to the Commission on the Aging (Item 1) for Ken Prack (represented by Alex Randolph).
Closed session and litigation items: Items 8 through 13 involved pending and threatened litigation; the committee convened a closed session and later reported that those items will be forwarded to the full Board with recommendation.
