Rules Committee forwards three nominees to Food Security Task Force

The Rules Committee heard presentations for three nominees to the Food Security Task Force and advanced all three to the full Board by unanimous consent.
Karen Grenaisen, associate director at Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco, described the organization's food programs, including meals at two shelters, interfaith winter shelter programming, congregate meals at a senior center and vocational "Chefs" training that produces meals. "We bring experience to the table," Grenaisen said, noting ties to multiple service networks.
Zetta Reichert, representing San Francisco Unified School District Student Nutrition Services, told the committee the district is "one of the largest public feeding programs in San Francisco" and serves more than 30,000 meals a day, many of them the only meals some children receive. She said the program has seen increased need and higher direct certification rates.
Dolores McGee, a community connector with the Community Living Campaign, described a volunteer-run program delivering food boxes twice a month to 51 seniors (age range stated as 80 to 100) in Ocean View, Merced Heights and Ingleside. She said volunteers and partner organizations also deliver hundreds of holiday meals.
Committee members limited public comment to two minutes and asked that clerks correct agenda titles shown on TV. The committee moved the three nominations forward without objection; the task force's annual report on hunger trends will be distributed to members next week.
