Rules Committee appoints Ronald Sanders to Reentry Council after robust applicant pool

The Rules Committee on May 6 appointed Ronald Sanders to the San Francisco Reentry Council, selecting him from a field of ten applicants.
Clerk Linda Wong introduced the item noting one seat and ten applicants. Candidates described a broad set of qualifications and lived experience: Kathleen Culhane and Jamie Brewster detailed recent reentry work and subcommittee service; John Kevin Jefferson III outlined workforce and expungement assistance experience; several other applicants described programmatic and training credentials. Several supervisors asked practical questions about residency, transportation and availability for committee work.
Public commenters and supervisors spoke in support of particular candidates. Supervisor Marr said he was moved by several applicants but ultimately "would move Ronald Sanders" and the committee seconded and approved the appointment without objection. Chair Campos praised the quality of applicants and urged those not appointed to consider other commissions and subcommittees, noting the Reentry Council’s appointments are advisory and its meetings are open.
The committee also directed staff to continue outreach and to consider the diversity of appointments; one application was continued for incompleteness and two seats were specifically held for later consideration where required paperwork was missing.
Next steps: The committee’s report will be presented to the full Board of Supervisors for confirmation; Sanders will join the Reentry Council when that confirmation occurs.
