Committee recommends Graffiti Advisory Board nominees after brief delay to include third applicant

The Rules Committee considered appointments to three seats on the Graffiti Advisory Board. Clerk called Item 1 and the committee heard brief presentations from applicants David Cromie and Debbie Shea. Cromie described decades of neighborhood activism and daily experience with graffiti near Haight and Ashbury; Shea said she is a private property owner and works in the city and wants to help balance new public artwork with graffiti that harms businesses.

After members clarified qualification requirements for the business-representative seat, Supervisor Michaela Alioto Pier moved to forward Cromie and Shea to the full Board and to hold Nino Parker’s seat open. The committee took that motion "without objection" and initially forwarded the two nominees.

Later in the meeting the committee reopened Item 1 to allow Nino Parker to speak; Parker described his long-standing work with Pretrial Diversion and the city clean-team events and his experience on the Graffiti Advisory Board since its reconstitution. Following his comments, the committee moved to forward Nino Parker, David Cromie and Debbie Shea to the full Board with a positive recommendation.

All actions on this item on Nov. 19 were advanced by unanimous consent or "without objection" and will be placed on the Dec. 8 Board agenda for final action.
