Adrienne Pan of the Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs said her office supports reappointing the incumbents and emphasized the commissioners’ contributions representing diverse immigrant communities.
Commissioner Alai Insani was represented at the hearing by a stand‑in who described her outreach work engaging African immigrant communities and providing language access and service referrals. Supervisors asked about commissioners’ attendance and expressed a desire to increase female representation on the commission—committee members noted that of the commission’s 15 members only two were women, and several seats will be up for reappointment in June.
Supervisor Carmen Chu moved to forward the two candidates to the full Board with recommendation. The committee agreed and asked staff to renew outreach to the immigrant community and encourage additional applicants ahead of the June reappointment cycle. The nominations will appear on the Board’s April 28 agenda.
