The nominee (referred to in committee discussion as Commissioner De Jesus) said she has served on the Police Commission for the last three and a half years and noted current work that includes beginning to screen police chief applicants and meeting with immigrant‑rights groups about allegations of racial profiling related to targeted enforcement. “We’re actually trying to analyze whether our target zone enforcement is having an adverse impact with the traffic enforcement portion of it,” the commissioner said, adding the commission will review whether its general order requiring 30‑day vehicle seizures should be changed because the code allows discretion.
Supervisor David Campos, who requested the expedited hearing, framed the timing as necessary to ensure a full commission participates in the chief selection. No members of the public spoke on the item and the committee moved the appointment forward without objection; the item will appear on the Board’s April 28 agenda.
