Rules Committee forwards slate of advisory appointments and technical ordinance fixes to full Board

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on Monday recommended a broad set of advisory appointments and a technical ordinance correction to the full board.
The committee recommended that Supervisor Chris Daley be appointed to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and forwarded resolutions to reappoint or appoint members to several advisory committees, including the Citizens General Obligation Bond Oversight Committee, the Bicycle Advisory Committee, the Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee and the Shelter Monitoring Committee. Members also recommended Woody Hastings to the Peak Oil Preparedness Task Force after public endorsement from the task force chair.
Applicants and public endorsers described a mix of lived experience and technical expertise. Eli Hernandez and Amanda Thompson, both shelter client advocates who said they have firsthand experience with the shelter system, received public endorsements from colleagues who attested to their familiarity with shelter rules and ability to mediate complaints. Jean Rosenmeyer, chair of the Peak Oil Preparedness Task Force, urged the committee to appoint Woody Hastings and praised his contribution to the draft task force report.
The committee also recommended a technical correction to the Reentry Council ordinance to clarify composition and waive an elector requirement where appropriate. Rick Galbraith, speaking for the ordinance sponsor, said the change corrects a mathematical drafting error and invokes charter section 4.101 to allow appointing formerly incarcerated individuals who may not be city electors.
One nomination was continued: Carter Rowan asked that the resolution confirming him as an alternate to the Transbay Joint Powers Authority be rescheduled. The committee confirmed it had addressed several closed-session litigation items and moved them forward to the full board with recommendation where necessary.
The committee completed its business and adjourned; the recommended appointments and ordinances will be considered by the full Board of Supervisors on the date noted on the committee agenda.
